Welcome to the Happy Hedgehogs. This room is for children aged approximately 20mths to 3yrs. We believe children’s learning experiences should be child-led fun, challenging and based around children’s individual interests and age and stage of development. Key workers plan appropriate learning experiences to extend and promote children’s development and carry out a 2yr developmental check. Adults lead various activities such as creative play, cooking, dance and movement, plus many more fun activities to ensure children are given quality experiences.
A sample of the types of activities the children do within the room:
• Role play area
• Singing, dancing & musical instruments
• Sand and water play
• Colour, letter, number & shape recognition
• Construction blocks
• Crafts (painting, sticking and making things)
• Scissors and pencil control
• Small world play
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and our observations inform our day to day planning. Happy Hedgehogs have their own little garden, which is open during both morning and afternoon sessions, weather permitting, to enable children to free-flow play. The children also visit our large nursery garden where they can play and explore in beautiful surroundings.
We encourage potty training and good hygiene, washing hands after using the toilet and each mealtime. Each child has their own storage drawers for holding nappies, wipes and cream etc.
Parents receive daily feedback from staff verbally and we welcome any ideas/comments to enable us to improve what we do. We complete children’s learning journals online (following the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum). You can have your own app and view/contribute to your children’s progress throughout their time here at nursery.
The staff/child ratio is 1:4 or 1:3 dependent on age in group.
